Germany 15th century, last quarter, or 16th century, first quarter. Paul Lehmann argues that this text is written by the same hand who wrote National Library, MS Va 23, see Lehmann (1934) . If this is true then A 238 was written by the scholar Albert Krantz (1450-1517), who was principally active in Hamburg and Rostock.

Provenance unknown.

It is unknown how the manuscript ended up at the National Library, but according to the old catalogues the manuscript has been in the library since at least the 17th century. In Jaches’s catalogue of 1698 (U 122) it is listed as 212 and in the catalogue of 1734 (U 125e) as Phil. in 4:o, no 5.
