Medieval binding. Red leather over wooden boards. 3 double raised bands and endbands. Corner pieces and bosses in brass.

Blind tooled concentric panels filled with geometrical and foliate patterns.

 Binding heavily damaged. Most of and have been replaced by a modern paper over cardboard binding, which is also damaged. Only the and the parts of the front and back covers closest to the spine are intact. On these parts the leather is heavily worn and repaired.

Austria , 15th century The place of origin is based on the inclusion of the saints Rupert, Virgilius and Cholomannus in the calendar and Proper of saints. These saints may point more specifically to Salzburg or Melk, where they were especially venerated.

Early provenance unknown.

According to the old library catalogues, the missal has belonged to the National Library since the 17th century. The note on refers to the catalogue of 1734 (U 125e), where it is listed as Theol in 4o no 12.

Occasional marginal and interlinear additions in ink by several medieval hands. They consist of corrections, additions, glossing, and cross-references. Some leaves, e.g. , contain more extensive additions. On there is a longer addition.

A large number of papers slips were originally placed between leaves as bookmarks. These slips contain text written by several contemporary hands. The text, ranging from 1-8 lines, seems to indicate passages on the leaves they were placed between. At some point the slips were removed and are now stored in two envelopes ( and ) attached to . indicate where the slips were previously placed. One slip stilll remains in its original place between . It reads: prosa de Sancta Affra Grates deo et honore.

Main text in black ink, rubrics in red, capitals touched in red.

Besides the main initial scheme consisting of different types of plain red initials and small penwork initials (most frequently on the top line), the manuscript also contains several sets of more idiosyncratic initals: : puzzle initial over 3 lines in red and black. : puzzle initial over 12 lines in red and black. The initial has reserved interior shapes and extends into the margin. : gold initial over 3 lines, placed on a green field. : plain initials over 2 lines in black ink (perhaps a later addition?). : plain initials over 2 lines alternatig in blue, red, and green. : missing initial. : plain initials over 1 line in green.

Ordo and canon missae: : decorated initial T over 6 lines. The letter body is made up of blue foliate shapes that extend into a frame; the enclosed space is filled in purple with diamonds and circle pattern in gold. From the initials three vines extend into the margins to form a frame. They are painted in purple, yellow and green.
